Our Alice in Wonderland cupcakes
How we created each of the Alice in Wonderland cupcakes
Drink Me
For the drink me cake we modelled a bottle out of fondant and applied it to a buttercream cupcake. We used colour coordinating sprinkles and found sprinkle letters fishing out D R I N K M E
Eat Me
The Eat Me mushroom was created by fashioning some cake scraps on top of the cupcake and then covering it in red fondant with white details and E A T M E sprinkle letters
Don’t forget the key
As it was a 21st a key was the perfect Alice in Wonderland x Life Event moment. The lock was made of fondant, and marbled with some white to give it some depth.
Daisy Flowers
Created using fondant these Alice in Wonderland cupcakes were inspired by the floral scenes in the film. Thinly rolled fondant, cut into oval petals, rolled lightly and arranged into a flower shape. Fondant can be applied to the cake with buttercream. Whilst a glitter gel (all the rage 15 years ago) and silver balls form the textured centre of the cake.
Wonderland Mushrooms
A simple set of three fondant wonderland mushrooms sit on top of buttercream grass. The key here was to coordinate the colours of fondant and buttercream. But each mushroom was still unique.
Cheshire Cat
A classic Cheshire Cat was created with a mix of fondant, sweets and edible marker!
Now we have done a lot more cake decorating I’m sure we would be able to do these better. However I’m still pleased with these as a first foray into cake decorating 15 years ago!
