How to make pixie jars and doors

Crafts inspired by Minions, Cornwall

Our Minion jars and doors are inspired by the recent upsurge in fairy-inspired crafts. This includes sweet crafts such as fairy doors or fairies in jars.

A freshly caught Minion

I was inspired by fairies in jars to make something a bit more Minions, Cornwall specific. Using interesting shaped jars and Minion shoe decorations I created these “jarred/freshly caught” Minions!

How to create jarred faires or Minions

To start with I created a base for the jar using craft foam (on the outside). and

Then I painted the inside with gold or blue glitter mixed with glue. The floor required several layers painted on.

Next I decided which side was the back and painted one glitter layer on the outside. I covered this with paint when it was dry.

To fill the jars I used a range of items depending on the style of Minion. I used Minion shoe charms bought on eBay. I made Fimo Tors for a couple and Fimo Pasties too.  Two were in golfing outfits so I gave them their own glittery golfball. I created the hedge in one jar with paint and cotton wool.

I painted the outside of the lid with acrylic to look like a metal escape hatch and added a “Minion from Minions” label and voila!

Minion or fairy doors

Also I had a go at creating fairy doors, again inspired by Minions. You can buy blanks for these online as well as from shops such as The Works or Hobbycraft

I had real fun this time experimenting with new ideas for more Minion and Piskie (how pixies are known in Cornwall) Doors.

My favourite is the Pirate door with St Piran’s flag it feels like a real meet in the middle between the two!

I used acrylic paint and glitter to decorate the doors. The Minion characters were key chains whilst the pasties were freshly baked from polymer clay.

Would you welcome a pixie, fairy or Minion to your home with a door? Or catch one in a jar?
