How to create decorated sunglasses
A DIY for the summer!
Decorated sunglasses are a fun bold way to show off your summer style.
I love the ways of showing my personality through the clothes and accessories that I wear. One thing I particularly love is sunglasses, one amazing pair can go with so many outfits and really tell the world something about you. So I thought I would have a go at creating so unique glasses!

I’ve also found some great inspiration over on Buzzfeed for even more ideas. If you feel like giving this a go yourself then be sure to follow these DIY instructions.
What you need to create decorated sunglasses
To make your own what you need is…
- A pair of sunglasses
- Glue (super glue for buttons/gems-PVA for glitter)
- Decorative items-I used crystals, buttons, glitter-other ideas could be fimo items, beads, resin pieces etc
- Ideas or inspiration
- Glasses cleaning wipe
How to make them
- First start by cleaning your glasses. Even brand new ones as this removes all fingerprints and grease.
- Next think of what you want to do. I let the shapes of the glasses dictate the patterns to me. For example the hexagon shape reminded me of bees, tortoiseshell with metal felt feline etc.
- Gather the bits you are going to use and plan it on your glasses before sticking. Remember not to use anything which is too large and blocks your vision. Sunglasses are to protect your eyes first and look pretty second!
- Start sticking! Gemstones should stick with super glue and pressure, same with buttons and other plastic bits. It’s always a good idea if you can to roughen the surface on the back of the buttons so the glue has a textured surface to grip to. For glitter either mix with the glue or paint on glue and pour on glitter. To have a solid effect you will need multiple layers.
- Leave to dry and then check the glue. If needed re-glue any loose pieces. The rounded shape of lenses and frames can make adhesion difficult.
- Rock those glasses! 😎
