How to make Mickey Ears and Earrings

Sharing is caring!

2 Disney DIYs: Using buttons and tsumtsums to make headbands and earrings!

Doing a Disney DIY is a great way to show love for your favourite characters, especially when they feature upcycling.

Showing love to some Disney goodies you already own is a great way to use up your stash and also avoid too many legal issues! Here we used ‘Dress it up’ buttons to create these adorable stud earrings and tsumtsums to create a headband

We love to feature Disney in our crafts. Upcyling goodies like Tsumtsums and these great buttons by Dress it Up buttons help us do just that!

Disney DIY 1: Button Earrings

Buttons make for cute earrings whether Disney themed or not. These technique can be used to create studs from any shank based button.

How to make earrings from buttons

  1. Pick a size of button you would be happy to wear (consider weight as well!)
  2. Snip of the backs of the buttons
  3. Check if any parts of the design now come apart and glue these together.
  4. Get a stud earring back in the right size to hide behind the button (bigger earrings want a bigger stud and vice versa).
  5. Gently file the back of the button if you can to increase adhesion
  6. Glue on the stud
  7. Voila!

Disney DIY 2: Tsumtsum Mickey Ears

If you have a collection of cute Tsumtsums gathering dust this is a great way to show them some love. You can also often pick up collections of random characters from eBay.

How to make Mickey ear headbands with tsum tsums!

  1. First you need a headband and two tsumtsum as well as a hot glue gun. We use velvet headbands for comfort but also to increase adhesion of glue.
  2. Next check placement of tsumstsums on headband. We style ours as Mickey ears-use a mirror and your own head for this step! You may also want to trim off any labels!
  3. Next apply enough hot glue to cover the width of the headband and just over the edges but not so much it will squidge out.
  4. Press and hoooold. As the glue cools your tsum with be stuck down firmly!
  5. Repeat with each side
  6. Ta dah!
  7. Bonus step-these can also be dressed up with more goodies and glue or kept simple with just the two!
